Overflow regulators for reliable pressure control

Overflow regulators from W2-Armaturen reliably maintain system pressures within defined ranges. The product range includes self-acting overflow and vacuum regulators for gases and industrial applications.

Überströmregler

Automatic and reliable regulation of system pressures

W2 valves’ pressure relief regulators respond automatically to changes in pressure and ensure stable pressure conditions in industrial plants without the need for an additional actuator.

Product Overview

Overpressure and vacuum regulators at a glance

W2-Armaturen offers a range of solutions for the automatic regulation of overpressure, vacuum and system

Overflow regulators for stable pressure conditions in industrial plants

Overflow regulators are used wherever a defined pressure needs to be maintained or limited on the inlet side of a plant. If the pressure rises above the set point, the regulator opens automatically and discharges the excess fluid in a controlled manner.

Unlike a pressure reducer, a relief regulator therefore controls the pressure upstream of the valve rather than downstream.

How does a pressure-limiting valve work?

The existing inlet pressure acts directly on the valve’s control system. When the pressure reaches the set point, the valve begins to open. If the pressure continues to rise, the cross-sectional area of the opening increases accordingly.

If the inlet pressure drops again, the valve reduces the flow rate. This allows the desired system pressure to be maintained at a stable level within the specified control range.

Its self-acting operation enables pressure regulation without the need for an additional electrical, pneumatic or hydraulic actuator.

Overflow regulators and pressure reducers – what is the difference?

Both valves are used for pressure regulation, but differ in terms of which side of the valve is regulated.

A pressure reducer reduces a higher inlet pressure and maintains the downstream outlet pressure at the desired level.

An overflow regulator, on the other hand, maintains the pressure upstream of the valve at a defined level and opens as soon as this pressure rises.

Reliably limiting negative pressure

As well as overpressure, excessively low system pressure can also put a strain on system components. The W2-Armaturen Type 86 negative pressure regulator opens when the pressure falls below a defined level, thereby protecting, for example, tanks, compressors or pipes from excessive negative pressure.

Overflow regulators for low-pressure ranges

Even at low system pressures in the millibar range, overflow regulators can be used to reliably limit the inlet pressure and discharge excess fluid in a controlled manner. The appropriate design depends, amongst other things, on the set point, flow rate, fluid and available pressure differential.

Typical applications for relief valves

W2 valves – relief and vacuum regulators – are suitable for, amongst other things:

  • Compressor systems
  • Industrial compressed air systems
  • Gas and process systems
  • Tanks and pipework systems
  • Power stations and energy systems
  • Industrial supply systems

When is a vacuum regulator used?

Vacuum regulators are used when systems, vessels or pipework systems need to be protected against unduly low pressure. If the pressure falls below the set point, the regulator responds automatically and prevents any further drop in pressure. This distinguishes its control function from that of a conventional relief valve, which responds to a rise in inlet pressure.

Which bypass regulator is suitable for my application?

The following operating data are particularly relevant for selection and technical design:

  • Fluid
  • Desired set pressure or upstream pressure
  • Maximum inlet pressure
  • Required flow rate
  • Operating temperature
  • Nominal diameter
  • Connection type
  • Existing pressure differential
  • Installation situation

W2-Armaturen provides support in selecting and designing the appropriate regulator for the respective operating conditions.
